Pronunciation
Isle of Raasay - this is easy to say, as it sounds - "aisle of rah-say".

It is matured in six signature casks: first fill Rye whiskey, fresh Chinkapin oak, and first fill Bordeaux red wine casks. The whisky is bottled at 46.4% ABV, non-chill filtered, and natural colour. The flavour profile is inspired by some older style smoky Hebridean single malt whiskies.

Distillery
The Isle of Raasay Distillery is the first legal distillery on the Hebridean Isle of Raasay. The distillery uses water from its own well, Tobar na Ba Bàine, which means ‘Well of the Pale Cow’ in Gaelic. The distillery also grows its own barley on the island, and plans to produce a 100% Isle of Raasay Single Malt in the future (we cant wait to try this out). The distillery has a capacity of 188,000 litres of alcohol per year, and produces both peated and unpeated spirit. To the Whiskytopia team this is very very exciting and hopefully to you too when you complete your whisky journey.
Region
Islay is a small island off the west coast of Scotland, and it is home to eight active whisky distilleries. Islay is famous for its peated whiskies, which have a smoky, medicinal, and maritime character. The peat is formed from the decayed vegetation that covers the island, and it is used to dry the malted barley that is used to make whisky. The peat gives the whisky a distinctive flavour and aroma, which varies depending on the location and source of the peat. Islay whiskies are also influenced by the sea, which adds a salty and briny note to the whisky. Islay is a popular destination for whisky lovers, who can visit the distilleries, taste the whiskies, and enjoy the scenery and culture of the island.
